United Way of Sidney is continually looking for
ways in which we can better meet the needs of our community.
Over the past two years, your donations have helped us to
assist the following organizations and programs in six primary
1. EMERGENCY SERVICES
Ambulance Service - Funds for a team to research how to set up a local ambulance service for the community.
Masonville Emergency Squad - Assisted with the purchase of a Stryker motorized stretcher for their ambulance.
Sidney Center Emergency Squad - Purchase of glucometers and a CLIA waiver.
2. YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
Sidney Recreation Commission - Supplied T-shirts for their soccer program.
Boys & Girls Club - Supported their summer enrichment program and Teen Book Club, and assisted with the purchase of a security camera and staff tee shirts.
Boys Scouts - Otschodela Council - Provided funds for two Eagle Scout projects.
Tri-Town Nursery School - Assisted with their healthy eating initiative and snacks and materials for science and math projects and with the purchase of a new copier.
Cullman Child Development Center - Helped purchase furniture for a literacy corner and a mobile play unit.
Sidney Area Youth Advocate Program (SAYAP) - Provided funds towards their skate board project.
School Supplies Collection - Worked in conjunction with Delaware/Otsego and Chenango United Ways to collect and distribute school supplies to children in need.
3. QUALITY OF LIFE
Veterans Park - Assisted with the in-house campaign at Amphenol to raise funds for the Sidney Veterans Memorial Park Committee.
Sidney Chamber of Commerce - United Way is a major supporter of their annual Arts and Music Festival.
Mothers and Babies Perinatal Network -Helped them purchase a rocking chair, sofa and DVD player for the PAL Center in the Civic Center.
Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care - Gave funds to promote and execute "Five Wishes: A Gift to the Family" informational workshops in Sidney.
Delaware Valley Humane Society - Assisted with the purchase of new doors and a fire alarm system at their facility.
Sidney Historical Association - Funding to assist with the purchase of a computer and printer for recordkeeping at their museum and provided funding for restoration and preservation of historical documents, photographs and artifacts.
It Takes a Village - Funding for a health fair and for a field trip for senior citizens and members of the Boys and Girls Club as part of the SMART Kids summer program.
Tri-Town Theatre - Assisted with improvements to storage of costumes and curtains and to implement a youth program.
Catholic Charities - Funding for the Caring Connections Program to help individuals in dire need of financial assistance and connect them with resources to meet their needs.
2-1-1 Program - Contributed to the establishment of a 2-1-1 program to help residents of Delaware and Otsego Counties locate information on needed health and human service programs.
Thomas Mirabito, Sr. Scholarship fund - Ongoing.
Supported the Booster Books pre-school literacy program through the Sidney Memorial Public Library.
Literacy Volunteers of Otsego and Delaware Counties - Helped provide updated "English as a Second Language" matecials and literacy assessments for tutors working in the Sidney area.
Dollars for Scholars - Ongoing support of four annual scholarships.
Sidney Area Food Bank - Assisted with funds for the Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets and to help replenish their dwindling food supplies.
6. DISASTER PREPAREDNESS
American Red Cross - Southern Tier Chapter - Funded the purchase of equipment and materials for disaster preparedness training presentations.
Sidney Emergency Services Disaster Team - (Salvation Army) - Assistance with the purchase of a trailer and canteen to use as a food service and supply support vehicle in response to local or regional emergencies.
